Read this before acting on anything Viterbi shows you. It is short on purpose.

Viterbi is educational

Viterbi exists to help you reason about trading strategies with honest statistics. It is not investment advice, and no output of Viterbi is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything. We are not an investment adviser, dealer, or brokerage, and we are not registered with any securities regulator. Using Viterbi does not create an advisory or fiduciary relationship. Paying for a plan does not change any of this. A paid plan buys access to software features, not advice.

Backtests are hypothetical

Every backtest is a simulation of the past, not a promise about the future. Backtests routinely overstate real-world performance, for reasons Viterbi itself tries to teach: strategies get overfit to the specific history they were tested on, historical datasets can quietly exclude assets that failed, and simulated fills ignore or understate spreads, fees, slippage, and market impact. A strategy that looks excellent in a backtest can lose money in live trading. Past performance, real or simulated, does not guarantee future results.

Your data, your inputs, your results

Viterbi's outputs depend on the data and parameters you supply. If the input data is wrong or incomplete, the results will be too. We work hard on the correctness of our statistics, but we do not warrant that any computation, chart, or figure is free of errors.

Trading involves real risk

Trading and investing can result in losses, including the loss of everything you put in. Leveraged instruments can lose more than your initial investment. Do not trade money you cannot afford to lose.
